The Project

All I Wanted To Do Was Troll My Family

My family is the type that constantly gossips back and forth with each other, usually ABOUT each other. They’re constantly playing telephone, asking “have you heard that this aunt and uncle did that, or those cousins did this”? Despite my having little to do with my family’s affairs, this gossip doesn’t exclude me, regardless of my lack of participation in it.

This project first began as a way to stand up to my prejudiced relatives, who were speculating about my supposed sexual preferences. I wanted to give them something to talk about, or make them so uncomfortable with what I was posting, they'd have no option but to unfollow me.

A journey of discovery

The old saying goes, "You can't understand someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes.” What began as a light-hearted revenge attempt ended up growing into a journey of self-discovery and a deeper understanding of perceived gender roles and the biases that surround them.

In search of answers

As I took a closer look at the stereotypes surrounding gender norms, I began to ask why we base ourselves on the outdated concepts they present. Why are men inherently seen as crass, entitled, and violent? Why are women seen as vain, nagging, and weak? How are these misconceptions allowed to be fostered in the present day? What can we do to stop it?

It is a beautiful book. It's made me smile, laugh, and even brought me to tears. I love it.

Love, love, love it. It's fantastic! I absolutely love the book. You have honored each and every model. I've not seen anything like this before.

Praise for the book
